Week 4: Evaluating the Barnstormers
Yikes - a close game that went in the wrong direction for the good guys. Let's take a look at it.
Offense: B+
The offense blew through the first half, throwing up an impressive 40-28 lead. So what happened? The offense looked a little gassed in the second half, dropping the lead, letting the game go into overtime, and eventually losing. The line managed to avoid giving up any sacks, and they kept the turnovers to only 2 fumbles, which helped.
Defense: B+
Defensively, yet again, the Stormers showed a depressing drop in energy in the second half. Antoine Thompson managed to take the only interception of the game to the house, which could have been a huge game changer, had they not gotten walked all over for the majority of the second half.
Special Teams: F-
In Arena Football, missed extra points are a reality of the game. The extra point is more difficult to make, and kickers have to kick so many of them in high scoring affairs that it's just statistically improbable that all extra points will be made. However, three misses in one game, including one in overtime that resulted in a loss, is just not acceptable. This was a problem that plagued the Barnstormers all last year, and isn't something we should be looking to repeat.
What's Next:
The Barnstormers have a short week, travelling to Pittsburgh to take on the 1-2 Power.
